Video: Digital Literacy, Part 1
Bonnie Reiss
Secretary of Education
State of California

MS. REISS: California being the innovative center of the country, with Silicon Valley and so many technology companies here, really is already leading the way nationally on digital literacy. And we want to continue to do that and stay at the -- and be the leader in the country.
Why it’s important is because every job in the global marketplace involves some degree of knowledge of computers and computer technology. Even if you’re an auto mechanic, you’re working in construction, you’re working in Burger King, cash registers and other things, everything is technology.
So the more we teach our young people and our workforce to be comfortable and digitally literate at using these kinds of technologies, the more they will have an advantage in being competitive in the marketplace to get the jobs they want and to be productive.
